Quick question, am i missing out not buying a new sat nab.
I've got a TomTom Go720 which must be 6 years old, i've never bought maps and only use it occasionally (once or twice a month).
It stil will work under its own steam (for 20 mins) and it doesnt crash however does take its time on first boot up to find satellites.
So with all these offers on atm would i benefit from a newer unit.

Are you updating the Firmware/map corrections etc via TomTom Home?
I have a 720 which is still going strong but it is kept up to date via regular connection to TT Home. I have never up-dated the maps as it's probably cheaper to buy a new unit (please note TomTom, get your map prices down.
I also have a 730 which lasted about 18 months and then would no longer boot up. I'd also bought new maps for that 1 not long before it died. TomTom would not allow me to use the new maps in my 720. They are registered to just machine.

Yep, plug it in every month or so and get a nnumber of critical updates and changes to the interface.... as you say i hear alot of people moan after 2 years their unit is dead... mine is still good well after 6 years...I have a 720 which is still going strong but it is kept up to date via regular connection to TT Home. Right no new TomTom for me.
Depends how often you use your unit? I personally value the updated maps, the live traffic services and the improved user interfaces as hardware improves, since I am a regular on the motorways. If its just to get to the odd destination every now and then, i shouldn't think it matters.

See thats the thing, i am just about to start a new job where i'll do 25 miles of duel carriage.. so a live service might be useful.... how usefull and at what price i dont know.... i was hoping someone would sway me into buying one....
