Help – Tom Tom One XL
Discussion
I have a TomTom XL One which I’m trying to load up with a new map. Because the unit doesn’t have enough memory I put a brand new SD card in assuming it would just be simple matter of downloading the new map to the SD card. However, when I put the SD in the unit freezes. I’ve tried older SD cards as well and it still freezes. I then have to wait until the battery goes flat to reboot. If I use the “reset” pin hole will I loose all my favourites and the custom voice I’ve installed? Thanks in advance.
Hi Joe, I have the same TomTom and had to add an SD card when the Western Europe map became to big for the internal memory. You need an SD card of max 2GB (SDHC is not compatible):

I have a SanDisk 2GB SD card and it works fine. Application, Maps and map Voices are then stored on the SD card, not on the Internal Memory which is disabled:

I've used reset a few times, but it only seems to erase Home location, not POIs.

Thanks for the help. I bought a 2GB SD card as suggested and the unit accepted it. I was able to download the map (eventually!) which installed itself directly to the card. Issues were the down load times; every time it downloaded one component it restarted itself to be ready to down load the next component. I then discovered the new map (on the SD card) didn’t have any voices. I fixed this by copying the “Voices” folder from the unit to the card. I haven’t been able to work out how to transfer the “Favourites” but that’s not really an issue. Some of the functions on the unit work with the card eg the icon and screen settings but not others, eg the favourites. All in all it took the best part of four hours to load and get it working. Add in the time to go and get the new SD card and it took six hours to sort it all out!! Why is everything on-line such a pain in the arse? By the way I’m still waiting for a response from the TomTom forum – a fat lot of use that is.
Thanks again chaps.

Finally had enough with my TomTom XL over the weekend.
Never really been happy with it, found it slow to respond to inputs etc etc. now they want many quids to renew traffic and update the maps.
So I've binned it and ordered a wide screen Garmin from Amazon. My old TT One is still going great guns with the kids though.
Are Tom Tom taking their eye off the ball?

More help please! I have a some itineraries on my SD card and can't work out how to access them from the itinerary planning screen. Any suggestions? Thanks. Joe
Won't they load in the normal way?Itinerary Planning > Options > Load Itinerary (from list)
It's my understanding that if you're using an SD card, everything (application and all add-ons) is using the card.
