What is the best speed detector on the market?
Discussion
I've got a Pogo Alert+, which is pretty good, but I haven't really got anything to compare it against. The only problems I have with it are that the screen isn't quite bright enough when the sun is out (and the roof is down on my MX-5), the suction mount isn't great and since Road Angel have bought the company behind the Pogo Alert the customer service has become rubbish.
Great in the states where they mainly use radar, less useful over here where the mobile sites use laser.
A GPS based one (with a good database, regularly updated) is in my view the best bet in the UK. My Pogo Alert+ also has a laser detector, but it has never been triggered, despite going past mobile camera vans. The GPS alert means I've usually slowed down before the van so the dint need to fire the laser at me.

I have a snooper pantera - bought it for £30 direct from the manufacturer on a first come fist served basis, but they usually retail for £80. Has free DB updates for life. I wouldn't pay £80 for it, or i'd be taking it back if i did.
Bit of a clunky unit - loses GPS signal pretty quickly, takes a while to lock and reminds you of _everything_ to the point where you'd tune out to the noise. I'd only use it now in areas completely unknown to me (like Scotland, where there's more police and guns hanging about comapred to daaaaaan sarrrrrrf).

I also have a Pogo which is generally very good. On the downside it can sometimes take up to 10 minutes to get its satelite signal. Also I use the A1307 between Cambridge and Haverhill on a fairly regular basis. The speed limit reduced from 60 to 50 some 2 years ago but Pogo don't seem to have noticed.

Don't TomTom get there data from Road Angel or am I making that up... GusB
Yes the Tom Tom speed camera service which comes with the HD package is supplied by Road Angel. It has exactly the same alerts as my new Road Angel Gem as I've run the two side by side and there is no difference. A bit annoying when you have forked out for the Gem but it does give me the option of taking either the TomTom 1005 or the Gem between a number of vehicles.I've had V1's for over 10 years and love them, use it with gps as well and it awesome.
Even on it's own it awesome, picks up laser from miles away.
I've just loads of different radar units over the years and the V1 is the king,
if your lucky you may find a Bel Euro 550 on the bay which is also a good unit but it doesn't have the arrows.

Does the V1 still go mad with false alarms every time you pass a petrol station or supermarket?Even on it's own it awesome, picks up laser from miles away.
