I bought the misses one last week and used it straight out of the box, 2hr journey and the battery hadn't charged a single bit, as soon as the engine was switched off the hav went off (had the setting to stay on when external power was lost) started the engine back up and checked the battery status which was 0%

I've just been back to tesco to swap it and plugged the new one into the laptop to register the maps and it doesn't appear to be charging also??

Am I missing something obvious?

That doesn't sound good - Lithium batteries don't like being left totally uncharged.

however have you tried leaving plugged into charger/laptop but switched off?
