What Nav System

Reading through this section, it would appear the main player are all useless.
My new stead does not have Nav and my sense of direction is crap. I can use my phone but would prefer a stand alone system. If it could also render my Road Angel redundant then excellent less clutter up front.
No real limit on cost so what should I be looking for, needs to cover UK and Europe for the odd hoon to the Ring etc

I bought a Garmin 2598 with lifetime maps and digital traffic.
I also bought the live traffic app (£15 a year).
PROS
It boots up quickly
It picks up GPS quickly
Voice command is fantastic
Bluetooth connectivity works great for calling and talking hands free
Maps are easy to follow
Traffic seems to work - when it detects a delay on route it will check its still fastest (seems to be saving me time)
Seems to be picking up all the temporary average speed camera routes and takes this into account for arrival time.
CONS
No instruction manual, so you need to go through settings to ensure it does what you want
Doesn't seem to learn faster routes (when you're close to home and know a quicker way through the back roads).
Mine has rebooted the once - looking on Amazon reviews there might be reliability issues.
For the £150 or so I paid I think it's well worth the money.

It may be worth having a look at the TomTom 1005 which I have had for a while, I agree that customer service is the very definition of total rubbish and the map updates need to be spread over a year as the update reminder is just plain dumb.My new stead does not have Nav and my sense of direction is crap. I have had a Road Angel in one form or another for over 10 years and it has saved my license many, many, many times over. Since buying the 1005 I rarely bother with my Road Angel Gem because for a while I ran them side by side and there was no difference so no point in two subscriptions.
The 1005 is a reasonable buy from Halfords at the moment as the free subscriptions almost make the unit free. Just remember to turn off the anti-virus software when setting it up on your computer. The new lane guidance display on the 1005 is an absolute gem at motorway junctions for all us road going lemmings.
