Now that VAG cars seem to have banished the 12v socket to the boot and replaced them with 5v USB C sockets I'm trying to track down a dashcam that is suitable

I know I could hard wire into the fusebox but was hoping as, in my 2025 Octavia at least, there's a usb by the rear view mirror i could find one where i can just plug in there and save the faff of running cables behind the trim etc.

Unfortunately the couple I've tried so far insist on 12v, has anyone else had any luck??

Another impact of having the 12v socket in the boot means that if i want to use my tyre compressor i have to put he back seats down and run the cable through the car to reach the front wheels... ahhh, progress....

Mine runs from an OBD port adapter. Easy way to find a permanent live, ign switched live and an earth with faffing about with piggyback fuses etc etc,

I don't have a Skoda but recently bought a dashcam built into the rainsensor cover and taps off the power for a Cupra. It was the best solution wiring wise.

Here's something similar for a Skoda: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009311065930.h...

I'm surprised you're struggling as I've had a few dashcams and they have all been USB powered,

My current one isn't available anymore but the latest Viofo models are USBC and 5v so should fit the bill.

Is it possible the dashcams you're looking at say 12v as they're expecting you to use their power adaptor (which goes in a 12v socket but takes it to a USB plug)?

70mai 4K Dash Cam on Amazon.
I have one and it's fine. It's powered from a USB cable/plug.
