Hello all,

I currently have a front and rear dash cam Nextbase 522GW from Halfords who installed it.

It works decently enough. However, the issues with connecting it to Bluetooth and WIFI are horrendous. Meaning I cant view footage without spending a huge amount if time getting it connected and disconnecting it to try and get it to work and then the issues of it taking ages to stream a video on my phone etc. Plus at times clips have vanished even though there was plenty of space and just formatted.

So I am wondering if anyone can recommend one that doesnt have these.issues?

I spoke to Halfords and they said that its due to connecting to a phone via Bluetooth and WiFI. Unlike for example Ring doorbell or CCTV that's connected to strong home WIFI.

I asked about an upgrade to the Nextbase IQ and they said that it would have the same issues and the screen is small and other negatives even compared to the 522GW.

Any advice appreciated.

Can you not remove the SD card and view the video files on a PC?

Yes you can but its a right hassel when you have the app and should be simple and easy to just open the app and view rhe clips.

Thanks..hope to get some responses as its a very frustrating piece of equipment. Hoping there's a better user friendly alternative out there.

Not just that but times when clips have vanished for no reason. Thankfully its never been when I have needed them

Mine has the same issue - however, on average I need to check the footage about once every several years.

Why do you need to keep looking at the dashcam files?

Yeah I resort to pulling the card out and found the same issue - found the missing clips in the protected folder - I think it the camera thinks you’ve had a bump (say hit a pothole) it protects the file so it doesn’t get overwritten.

I have an issue where randomly the fking thing doesn’t turn on when I start the car. My camera is hidden behind the rear view mirror so I don’t see the screen so I don’t notice if the camera is working or not.

It’s a piece of st, these things should just work, reliably.

I use BlackVue cameras in all my cars, and they are all good quality and reliable, although on the costly side.

My most recent purchase was the DR970X box plus, which has small 4k front & rear cameras, with a separate tamper proof recording box that is mounted under the seat. Quality kit, but it cost around £750 with a 256GB memory card.

How else do you collect all your clips to send to Idiots caught on dashcam of you shouting dashcam at someone who accidently slightly inconvienced you? hehe

My cars on both sides of the pond have Viofo, great quality and nothing negative to say about them.

Thanks all.

To the kind posters who mentioned Blackvue and viofo can I ask, if you want to quickly check the footage or download is that quick and easy via the app on your phone or can you play back on the actual dashcam itself???

As the issue with mine is that it constantly doesnt conenct to Bluetooth or WiFi. And can take an hour or so to get connected or sometimes not at all. And have to remove the sim to take in at home..

Also any recommendations for exact front and rear models?

Blackvue do not have a screen built in. Viewing on the app is simple and seamless. It’s been utterly reliable.

Thanks. Any particular model you recommend? Front and rear?

Any issues with missing footage?

As with my nextbase oftern I discover 30 mins or so of zero missing footage clips. For no reason at all.
