Electric fan testing

I want to test the radiator fan today - I haven't heard it spin up since I've owned the car (1989 Nissan 300XZ). The fan works via a pair water temperature sensors in the radiator - one that switches at 90c and one at 100c. However, to begin with I'd like to bypass that and just send power to the fan to see if the motor works, and then work back from there. How would I do this?

Can I force the fan on at the relay(s)? I ask as I saw the Top Dead Centre do this the other day on their channel...

Can I wire the battery to this connector at the fan?

You can remove either relay 1 or 2 and connect a piece of wire between W & W/L. With these pins connected together, you should hear the fan running.

Use a reasonably thick wire, something similar to the W & W/L wires will be ideal. Expect to see a spark when you connect it. Also be ready to remove it quickly if the fan doesn’t start spinning as it can draw a lot of current if the fan is seized. It’s probably worth spinning it by hand before you start to make sure it spins freely.
