Speed camera units suggestions? (Novus?)

I've been a Talex user for 5yrs, but find their customer support appalling and now my unit wont update ... so time for a change ...
Anyone got any experience of the Novus units or recommend another one?

I'm a bit concerned the Novus database updates are free for life which makes me suspicious of how up to date they are?

Thanks Mike I have heard pocketgpsworld's database is verg good, but not sure how good it is on a Tom Tom or Garmin GPS?
I'm not keen on having a map displayed all the time ... plus would it be directional and give overspeed warnmings close to the cameras?
I do lik ethe Talex and Novus systems .. very clear and conside voice saying 'slow down' etc!

If you only want warnings when above the speed limit for the camera go for Garmin as the TomTom can't do that. Some Garmin units will use spoken alerts notifying you of the camera type and speed but not directional when using third party data.
With the TomTom you will get a warning announcing something like "Warning GATSO ahead, speed limit thirty miles per hour" in a variety of voices depending upon how you customise the device (avoid the newer Go-1xxx or VIA models though as these don't work in the same way as the more traditional TomTom units) - Mike

I recently started having problems with talex, the updater kept saying that it could not connect to the internet.
When i tried reinstalling the updater from their website i got mutiple version conflicts saying that some files was newer than the one i wanted to install.
windows script read runtime library
microsoft script runtime
windows nt cxt dll (not sure if this is right couldn't get a screenshot)
the advice was to keep the newer file, i did that and finished the install, ran the updater and everything worked fine.
I do not know what caused the problems but could it be anything to do with using a win7 64 bit as i know some devices will only run on 32 bit ?.

Novus Rider user for 2-years. Weekly updates. You can have fixed sites or down load those and the mobile sites.Anyone got any experience of the Novus units or recommend another one?

I believe it's paid for itself many times over, especially when using unfamiliar Suburban routes!!

Who supplies the databases for these firms ?. When talex were having their problems a few years ago i bought an inforad which used the pgps data and i found that it matched alerts/warnings with the talex.
Do they all have their own teams or is there a central supplier of data which they then customise to suit their products ?.

I've had a: Origin B2 - Excellent while it stayed in its cradle, a Road Pilot - started off good then database became diabolical and outdated, and currently using a Road Angel compact - does the job and accurate database.
I find it difficult to believe that it is viable to several companies to maintain their own databases and therefore worry about their accuracy. This certainly seemed to be the case for Road Pilot - used to be good, but with no recent new products and very limited resources how can they be viable. I love the Origin/Pogo products - the do have the best features and are small and neat - but again worry about their long tern viability. Their products are not cheap and it's a lot to throw away if their database becomes poorly maintained. After all the products are only as good as the database!
Road Angel would appear to be the most viable company - having a good range of new product plus the TomTom contract - for this reason I would suggest that for a GPS speed camera detector they are the best proposition.

I have owned two novus delta's and both lost sound within
two years i now own a novus alpha for 15 months and the sound has gone on this one as well
