Why does everyone insist on taking the racing line around a roundabout when I'm on it? So many times I've had to take evasive action.

I think the OP means straightlining a roundabout when heading straight on.

Always try to never be next to another vehicle on a roundabout.

Precisely. It's best to try and stay behind / in front of people in other lanes as they can suddenly change lanes with no warning / cut the white lines and so on. Regarding trucks and buses etc.... expect them to cut the lines so stay in front or behind them.

It’s one of the quickest ways to get past the mobile chicanes driving along on sleep mode.

This ^^^^ all day long.

For the sake of 2-3 seconds, just don't ever be next to another car on a roundabout.

it just makes things much easier and safer.

The same reason people swing into the lane to their right in order to take a left turn when there was no need!

The answer to ‘why do people do X, Y, or Z; (when said poster is on the road)?
Lies within the parentheses.
Advance driving is about recognising, and accommodating other (even poor) drivers, and getting away from them as if they were not there.

Well said.

If you plan ahead, observe, drive at the right speed for the conditions you are unlikely to get involved in anyone else's stupidity, you can just watch it at a distance.

I see loads of idiotic things when driving, but I'm not involved in any of them.

If you are getting involved with idiots on the road all the time, then maybe take a look at your own driving and see if there is anything that you could have done differently.

Exactly. And I'm enter first, turning right so they come up on the left gunning it.

Awkward if you're on it first

I'm generally good at the clairvoyant bit, but if you're on the roundabout first you can't wait to find out what the numpties behind might do.

If you are already on the roundabout, you can of course still make sure no one is next to you.

If someone is joining in front of you, slow down a little, just let them go.

If someone is joining behind you, then they are behind you, you might have to speed up a little to keep them behind though.

It's all observation and planning.

Much harder on a large busy roundabout, I grant you, but still possible to severely limit the time anyone is next to you, if not eliminate it all together.

A classic this morning/

Out on the motorbike. Reached a mini roundabout at which I intended to turn right, a cyclist was right behind me (20 limit) who decided to do a 360 in the left lane of the roundabout overtaking me as he did so. I had to brake to a stop just as I was about to leave the roundabout.
