Hi all,

Got on to look at this kind of by accident when looking at other estates. Was hoping to get answers to a few questions from any owners on here!

Am I right in saying that a 2022 car is turbo charged and NOT twin charged? Some conflicting info on the web.

What's the economy like when not using the "plug in" part of the hybrid system. We don't have off street parking and we can't always guarantee that we would be able to charge the thing up. When we do, it would be with a 3 pin plug and "topped up" as the cost of installing an electric charger for the sake of charging a little 18.8kwh battery would take eons to pay itself back. The plan is essentially to charge it if convenient, but not worry too much if its not.

Related question - does the car drop power when the battery is 100% depleted? My gut feeling is not, as on the test drive the car had 0 miles of electric range but still went like a stabbed rat when I went down a slip road, but I know some hybrid systems do drop off in power and some dont? Apologies if I am displaying some ignorance there!

Any other ownership advice / anecdotes would be great. What are they like maintenance / service wise for example?

TIA!

No one has any experiences or opinions? hehe

Is there (god forbid) a better forum than PH for Volvo stuff?

I havea 2020 T8 PE so not same power output from the ICE so not particularly helpful. ICE only I'll get 35mpg. Electric only range about 26 miles. The battery always has some in reserve for full power or AWD if you need to call on it. Driving around in Polestar (or sport) tends to charge the battery on regen anyway so you'll find a couple of electric miles available.

SwedeSpeed is a decent forum for ownership experiences.

Thanks, that’s helpful. If the T8 can average 35mpg on ICE than it’s fairly safe to assume that the T6 should be between 35 and 40, which is totally palatable! If you’d said mid twenties or something I’d have been a little more concerned. Good to know full power is always available too!

What’s the T8 like? Is that around 450bhp? Is it more sporting than the T6?

Thanks for the forum recommendation too, I will check that out

My T8 is 2020 so pre-update so only the 11kwh battery, and 405hp with the Polestar work. Advantage is it was pre speed limiter (112mph) and has the paddle shift. Not many T8s about is an issue.

The R design have sportier suspension but it's not a sporty car by any stretch, far less dynamic than my previous Audi S4 Avant. It's very rapid though in a very understated undramatic way. The package suits me being able to go from EV only city driving to making good progress home on dual carriageway and country A roads. Definitely drive them to get a feel. What car is it replacing?

I've driven the T6 and very much enjoyed it. Effortless progress is the way I would describe it! A few years ago I would have got something sportier, but ultimately its very rare that I am driving in a way that warrents a sporty car, and the positives of a comfort focused drive will outweigh the negatives 90% of the time.

Its actually replacing my wifes car (1.2 2014 qashqai) and will become "my car" when my Mk6 Gti is replaced with something smaller. Essentially the family wagon is going to be my daily, and my wife will get the smaller car.

I dont generally visit the Volvo section, but saw this post pop up in the what's new.

I have a T6 but it a 2021 so pre update with the 11Kwh battery, but the rest is still relevant I guess

Mine is twincharged, I didn't think that changed for the update and Google Gemini says the updated cars power increase came from an upgraded hybrid motor.

I had a longer journey at the weekend via the motorway and the car said I averaged 45mpg. obviously if you are doing town driving on petrol only its going to be less.

if i am cruising on the motorway I will set it to charge so the battery has a top up for the slower driving where it excels.

the sat nav is clever and works with the hybrid, if you have a longer journey it will save the charge for the slower urban roads and reduce the electricity use on motorways (where the battery gauge drops like a stone)

I have a wall charger as its very convenient to just unhook the lead and plug it in rather than coiling the Mine can only charge at 3.6kw which is only a bit more than a granny which should be 2.4kw - again I think they got a better on board charger in the update.

From my experience the battery is never really fully depleted and i have never noticed a lack of power, there is always a little in there to assist in acceleration, the car just reduces the ability to drive in battery only. it can generate electricity when braking/coasting so that must keep it topped up just enough.

My 11kwh battery will give me 25miles range, my work is around 10 miles away so i generally put it in electric only mode and waft to work in silence

I charge overnight using a 3p electricity tariff. totalled it up and worked out a year of commuting cost me about £100. again io have a wall charger and can also charge for free at work occasionally (if the company directors have left and the charger is free)

I love the looks and it is a very comfy car, but as you say can shift when you put your foot down, a bit of a sleeper

I did look at the V90 T6 but its a little rounder and less aggressive. when I looked at the dimensions the boot was practically the same size (the V60 is only 100mm shorter in length)

I had a noisy electric boot strut that eventually failed, apparently this is a common fault due to the orientation of the strut and water can get past the seal. I got an aftermarket pair online and replaced them myself.

I will look for another V60 as a replacement when the time comes probably a upgrade T6 with the bigger battery, more power and the newer Google Auto system. Or a T8, but they are quite a step up in price.

Thanks thats really helpful!

I agree a wall charger would be ideal... but with no off-road parking and (i'm guessing) £1500 or so to installing, plus the increased cost of electricity for everything else during the day, it'll take forever to pay for itself!

if we charged it every other day from empty to brim (18.8Kwh) it would cost £103 at 3p, Vs doing the same on our current tarrif it would cost £754 to do the same charging... So actually in a perfect world, that would pay for itself over a couple of years... im slightly proving myself wrong there! We could split the difference with a standard economy 7 tarrif and a timer or something to charge from the 3pin plug overnight...

Can I ask which electricity provider you use? and what your rate is during the day? The big caveat is that without offstreet parking, we could arrive at home and not be able to charge, so if that happens 50% of the time, its going to halve the cost effectiveness of it all!

It depends on which charger you want but I have seen people quoting chargers installed from around £800 upwards.

I am with Eon and my rates are 3.9p night and 26p day, when I changed to this I was on 24p flat rate, so the day rate didn't change very much. what we also do is put the more energy thirsty appliances on delay timers (dishwasher, washing machine, drier etc) so they operate in the cheap over night window too, so overall out costs have gone down.

The PHEV works great and you get the most out of it if you can charge them, but even with a low battery they are very nice cars. the engine can charge the battery and it can regen.
with the bigger battery hopefully it gives you a bigger buffer to go without charging more often

Thanks,

We did go for the T6 in the end!

I think we are going for a proper charger too... A few too many internet stories about melting 3 pin plugs for my liking! Plus it future proofs us for an EV going forward!

Thanks for the help and advice.
