Hi all, we've just got our first xc90, a 2024 t8 recharge ultimate. Absolutely lovely car, comfy, quiet, quick and erm, large.
However, i wanted to check if anyone else on here has had any issues with the Bluetooth connection to the Google infotainment system?

My wife and I both have Samsung Galaxy phones (her an S20FE and me an S25+) but when making phone calls the system freezes after a couple of minutes. The call is still connected to the phone and voice/ speaker is back on that but the head unit has frozen, no ability to disconnect from the call, use any functions such as sat nav, heating, radio etc. Only way to recover the system is stop the car and shut it down for 5 minutes.

However, the phone works perfectly when cable connected and calls are made via Android auto.

Been to the dealers 4 times now, the first 3 for various software updates and the last (picked up on Monday this week) they replaced the entire head unit. But it happened again a day later.

We're kinda getting fed up with it tbh, it's not a cheap car and we saved hard to buy it and such a simple task should be something a car such as this does with no issues. We've tried in our friends same year merc GLC and no issues at all making calls through Bluetooth. If we can't get this sorted the we'll start pushing for rejection but I want to see if this is a common issue.

Can't really help....we have the same year/model, I have an S23 Ultra and it works fine (subject to the various shortfalls of the Google system in these cars, which is frankly pretty rubbish and a step back from the previous Sensus unfortunately - no built in music player, steering controls don't half what they used to, unintuitive elements like the driver's display etc).

Have you tried clearing all bluetooth devices from the car and from the phone and trying afresh?

Personally, and despite my misgivings on the Google platform in the car, I'd be using a cable rather than hack the car in. There's pretty much nothing with this functionality that can top it for that quality, serene feel for full on big family lugging. And EX90 is too expensive, and an EV9 not *quite* as quality feeling...though if you've not been on one, it would be worth taking a look.

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree the google system is no where near as good as the Sensus system that I have in my 70 plate S60. Missing a number of functions on the steering wheel and it's not as intuitive.
Car is back in with Volvo, complete with a video of what is happening so hopefully we'll get somewhere this time.
On what is an 85k car new (55k at 1 year old) this sort of issue really shouldn't exist, it freezes the entire display and means not only can you not disconnect the call at the car (even if call ended on the handset) you then cannot use any other part of the IHU, be it radio, sat nav or media.

Did you very long press the centre button?

I think the issue Volvo had is that the EX90 was very late, and they'd already committed to ditch Sensus. I think this Google system was a lash up to tide them over.

Not excusable on an expensive car. But I don't see anything being done about it sadly.
