460 immobiliser problem

My friends trusty Volvo 460 has decided that it won't un-immobilise itself. Doors open ok on the fob and i'm pretty sure everything else is ok, just doesn't disengage the immobiliser! Anyone encountered this problem/have any solutions?

Depends how handy you are.

Usually the immobiliser stops the starter relay from grounding, and cuts the fuel, and maybe the ignition circuit in the ECU.

I would be tempted to bypass it all, this might require a s/hand ECU/wiring loom from a non immobiliser car.
Which engine is it?

To be honest I was hoping someone might know a quick fix. If it involves a serious rewire she'll probably scrap it...
