We're off to Hamburg later this year and have tickets booked for Miniatur Wunderland. It's the world largest model railway apparently and the airport is one of the scenes they have.

Search for it on YouTube and you'll find some great videos. This gives quite a good overview of the place: https://youtu.be/57W85KytRHs

I went with small kids a few years ago and we're going again this year with slightly older kids. It's vast, amazing, and you can easily spend hours there. There is so much detail that it is easy and delightful to spend time at each scene. Most sections of the model cycle through day and night, with various events happening only periodically. It is open long hours and the summer season is heavily booked already (booked our tickets for late July a couple of weeks ago).
