I have a new 911 GT3RS and an original 70s 911 Turbo and want stickier tyres for the pair, what can be done or bought? Can later axles be fitted to the 70s car?

Ta in advance, Corin.

That's stirring some memories of slot car racing in the early 70s. Home built cars with the chassis made from soldered brass tube and plate, motors would by hand with super strong American magnets, sliding front axle, hinged mounts for the body to allow it to move etc. Tyres were foam rubber bonded to alloy centres but the real grip came from oil of wintergreen on the tyres.

ECRA rules expressively banned 'goop' or tyre traction improver containing oil of wintergreen. I think it ruined the track surface which was one reason why everyone went over to glossy polyurethane tracks in the 70s.

But it was fun until it was banned!

Hi

If your running on plastic track (Scalextric, Carrera etc) try 19 x 10 Slot.it S1 compound. http://www.topslotsntrains.com/topslotsntrains/fin...

If you start using the S1's you'll need to replace all your cars tyres as they're silicone.

If it's just the odd car go for the 19 x 10 P3's. http://www.topslotsntrains.com/topslotsntrains/fin...

Hi Phil, we're still going strong, in the form of BSCRA not ECRA. Check out the list of clubs at the British Slot Car Racing Association website

All the best, Rob
