I know I shouldn't...

...but I have a hankering for an R/C petrol buggy at the moment. I've just moved to a house with a big playing field out the back and I'm keen on getting one to play with in the field!
However, I'd like something that fast, reliable and tough. Also, I'd like something that ideally comes complete and ready to run, with this in mind I'm more than happy to go 2nd hand.
Any suggestions? I've got a soft spot for the Tamiya models of my youth, but I suspect I will be let down if I went back to them.
I have something like this in mind, but I have no idea if it's good, bad or indifferent. Ideally I'd like to spend less than £200 as well to avoid an ear bashing from SWIMBO (I have a model plane I've not finished building from 2 years ago now!)

All the RTR engines will be fine.
The problem with buying second hand you don't know if the engine has been looked after. The common thing to say is "only done 2 gallons", but that is still a hell of a lot of use for a high revving engine.
If you have not had any nitros before or not have an existing collection, I would go with a new one for peace of mind. Remember you are taking the guys word that the engine works ok, and there are a lot of cowboys selling rubbish.
A different choice would to go for the Hyper 7 or 8 buggies, you will get a new RTR closer to the 200 mark. Again these are rock solid, dirt cheap spares and reliable engines.

When it comes to rallycross buggies there is a lot of choice for your money! I ran a Hyper 7 for a while before turning to proper racing buggies. Kyosho have RTR versions of there old MP7.5 buggy and have just released a new one but thats getting close to £250. Caster are another specialist on the market and also have an RTR model and they are based on older Mugen cars, Apexmodels have the RTR fitted with a Go.25 engine and 2.4ghz radio for £239!
HI forgive the thread hijack I appologise but I'm just in line with seeling my Nitro CEN GX1 it's not a truggy but a rally car and pretty good off road to be honest. I am just on here lookin for a rough price before sticking in classifieds but if your interested give me a shout. It is the CEN GX1 2 speed 4x4 model with the rally focus body I have 2 shells 1 tatty 1 good, 2 chasis 1 fully running the other a rolling chasis no engine. I'd not be wanting any where near the £200 hundred mark in fact half it but as I say if your interested drop me a line.
If not happy buying and enjoy.

Hi there I have taken a few pics of everything I have for the Cen along with spares etc. The ones on the table are all the running cars items the one on the floor is the rolling chasis. I'll now attempt to upload images.

This one has the spares which are new spur gears 1st and 2nd gear and a new pull start. Along with all the original owners manuals and bumff.

The rolling chasis and tatty shell, along with various tyres and wheels. A spare exhaust and battery pack.

The shell is in one piece but pretty tatty with the split in the roof and front right wing.

And this is the lot.

Hope this helps to give you an idea. All the bits are clean and to be honest well maintained have had it out a few times and it's a very quick car the 4 wheel drive helps off road. If interested give me a shout and make me a sensible offer. All the best.
