Well trimmed or just lucky!!

Took the Lander Cougar out for a flight this morning. After a few circuits the fan dies. Initial thoughts were the esc had burnt out as I was flying flat out most of the time, but no worries the plane has a BEC powering the reciever and the flight was only a few mins in on a fully charged battery, so I should be able to glide back home. As it happened the plane was comming towards me anyhow so it was just a matter of keeping her lined up and decending nicely As she got closer I decided rather than line her up with the strip ( she was comming in at 45 degree to it )I would just keep her straight and set her down in the field. I was disapointed that I didnt seem to manage to flare out on landing as she came in a bit hard, but the field is soft at the moment so didnt look to be any damage. She stopped about 30 yds away and I walked over to pick her up. I took the canopy off and no light on the BEC no servos moving, nothing!!
The plane had flown in from 3 or 400 yds out and at 100 ft or so with no power or control As luck would have it when the power failed the control surfaces must have been at neutral, and the plane pointing directly towards me and at a height and range to give a satisfactory glide path!
I checked the lipo and initially thought the deans was giving a bad connection, but further investigation suggests an an internal fault in the lipo

I think you were very lucky mate. Its odd to have a lipo failure though, mine get a pretty rough time in my cars and I've not had any issues.
It's this sort of thing that puts me off flying, I saw an out of control chopper nearly take a kids head off once, it s
t me up so much that I never flew again.
