Hi all,

Can anyone recommend someone/company who creates architectural models? I'm in the Manchester area but if the model can be safely posted I would be happy to look further afield.

Thanks

Ben

Something I've never thought about but I wouldn't mind a model of the Lloyds Building or the Flatiron.

If you find anything Can you let me know, Cheers mate.

I am an Architect and can tell you that architectural models are usually produced by specialist model makers to the profession. It is a highly skilled industry and the models are very expensive- they really are works of art in themselves and often sometimes displayed in art exhibitions such as the RCA Summer Show.

I remember a few years ago (probably 20 or more!) a diy card/ glazing model of the Lloyds Building was produced which was of higher quality and realism then the 'build your own Chrysler Building book' type. It cost about £20 and i,ve often regretted not snapping one up at the time.

Good Hunting!

Manchester University have a school of architecture, and architectural model making is part of the curriculum. It might be worth contacting the school to ask if the staff or more able postgrads might like to assist you. Physical model making has been speeded up a lot with stereo lithography, CNC mills and so on, but that just adds to the cost. I seem to remember £50-80/Hr per person as a nominal figure, but I imagine a more traditional maker would be less.

I have a (partial) set of drawings for the Lloyd's building, and it looks a tricky bugger.
