Some advice/help needed - Magnifying lamps
Discussion
Howdy
As I have mentioned in one or two other posts, I have recently got back into modelling. So that I don't go blind before I'm 30, I'd like to invest in a magnifying lamp. However, I don't really know what I'm looking for.
At the moment, I am looking at something like this, but it doesn't give any information regarding the magnification as far as I can see.
If there is anyone out there who knows what to look for or can recommend a decent lamp, advice would be very gratefully received.
I am looking to spend less than £50 on a lamp, though could probably stretch that budget a little bit. However, as I'm not a modeller of the calibre of DR_GN or some of the others on here, I think a top of the range lamp would be wasted on me at the moment.
Thanks in advance.

I know I was praising these things a month or so ago, but to be honest, the novelty soon wore off and I found myself just using it as an expensive lamp. The trouble is it not only magnifies the work you're doing, but also your fingers, and any tools or paintbrushes you happen to be using, so it doesn't really make painting or positioning things any easier in the end. Trying to judge distances through a huge lens is also a bit of a lottery especially when painting. As I have mentioned in one or two other posts, I have recently got back into modelling. Invest in glasses or contact lenses or rely on your eyes is my new advice.
Glad I only borrowed 'mine' from work!
It's a little bit funny
A long time ago my missus bought me a magnifier on a flexi stand that I could never get on with.
I said "Oh thanks babe this is the best thing since sliced bread..."
Just a bit cynically, 'acos then I couldn't get on with it
Suddenly thirty years on I find it invaluable to give an overall wider coverage of "the bit I'm doing now!"
It isnt illuminated but with a side positioned anglepoise does the job very well
