Hi, Well Basically after looking at some of the bloody amazing models people have made on here I decided to try my hand at building a Model F14. Anyway the F in F14 now stands for "fk it has all gone horribly wrong" I've (to a fashion) painted the model and just now started gluing. Well now it at least looks like an F14 but;
a: Everything is covered in Glue
b: The cockpit is in at an angle and I kind of glued it in place
c: It was meant to have working swing wings however the cog things that made them work together broke.

Anyway has anyone got some advise I can use to make the model look not too crappy.

On the plus side it is meant to be black hehe

What scale?

Not the easiest aircraft to start working on, especially if you want bits of it to actually work.

My advice is always to start on something easy and cheap( e.g. 1/72 Spitfire, Mustang, 109 etc) which can be messed up at no real cost and which will teach you what NOT to do without you wanting to cut your own throat.

Pictures please! Don't be shy.

From what you've said I's say

1)Get it all glued together.

2) Fill any gaps (if there are any), and sand back smooth.

2) Spray it all with a couple of coats of Halfords filler primer.

3) Flat it back down with wet and dry paper all over until it's smooth and most of the filler primer has been removed.

4) Spray it with Halfords plastic primer.

5) Finally paint it however you like, add decals and overcoat with a spray can of matt or satin varnish.

You'll lose most of the surface detail, but at least it will look reasonably like an aircraft. this is what I did with my Spitfire rebuild, and it looks OK despite being *Araldited* back together in places!

What kind of glue are you using? If plastic cement, remember that you only need to use a very small amount on one of the surfaces to get it to stick. If superglue, get some plastic cement!

I'll post a link to the kit I bought

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Model-4029-F14A-Black-Tomc...

That kit, I've glued most of it together now and it doesn't look too shocking. The glue is some (I think) polymer based stuff, it sticks like superglue however it isn't strong enough to stay together if someone gives it a good tug, I put the front section on and it was crooked so I gave it a good pull and the glue stuff stretched and then came apart.

Give me a few minutes and I will post a picture of my progress so far. The paints are acrylic paints that came with it, (I did at one point paint it blue and green to try and make it like the ww2 planes however it went wrong so I washed it off and went back to black)

Got some pictures, it doesn't look as bad in real life because apparently my camera doesn't like being close to the thing it is taking a photo of.

at least now it has dried it can support its own weight hehe

Your modelling is better than your photography smile

It looks 1/144 - so won't have been too expensive - which is good.

Yeah only cost me £8 from hobbycraft.

I blame the camera, it only works in certain light, most of the time it is crap.
