Engine purchases on a whim...
Discussion
I purchased these yesterday from a carboot sale. Very, very cheap and have no idea to their actual cost.
No idea what I am going to do with them as I have never built any models or used radio control gear (although I am mad on radios).
I suppose I really got them as they are engines
Marked as a Thunder Tiger 20 (Model 7701) and with a TT-202 exhaust.

Marked as a Fuji 099 S-II

Just a few questions:
I know they are Nitro engines but they are missing their glow plugs. Are all glow plugs the same size (unlike spark plugs!).
One engine has some side float. Is this OK?
Given as aircraft engines. Can they be used for anything else? Car etc.
I will add some more info here: http://www.datasilo.co.uk/?p=514

I got a couple of obscure engines, and couldn't get them started. I put photos of them on the engines section of the RCGroups forum. Very soon I had all the info I needed and was able to run them. One guy even noticed on one of them that the orientation of - IIRC - the fuel input nipple was wrong. I would have *never* have known that had I not posted pictures. The guys on RCGroups are very good at stuff like this.
Yup both aero engines & couldn't really be used for anything else. Glow plugs come in short & long reach, the Fuji will be short, the TT20 could be either but it probably is short as well. A bit of side float in the crankshaft is to be expected as they both look to have been used. If you want to test them you'll need a 7x4 prop for the 099 & a 9x4 for the TT20. They only need 5% nitro fuel no more. Edited to say the 099 could be missing its backplate, can we have a pic of the back of the engine please.
It does look as though the back plate is missing i agree,to be honest they were pretty ropey engines when new,Thunder Tiger was a very cheap OS (FP) rip off and much worse for it,terrible carb.If you really want a good reasonably priced standard glow engine then OS is your best bet, far superior in every way. Both the engines look to be plain bearing so a bit of end play is normal.
