How to model water?

What is the best product or technique to model water.

In this case, I'm making a diorama of a bay / beach.

So best method that is reasonably realistic?

Based purely on wandering about Hobbycraft with Woman, you can buy fake water from there, I think it's like a gel.

I use scenic water, which you can get from most model railway/hobby stores. Just put the tub in the microwave for 10-15 secs to melt it and pour it out onto the diorama. Use a cocktail stick to move it around into all the nooks and crannies. As it starts to set you can add waves/ripples, with a cocktail stick or wooden stirrer. To soften any harsh waves or mistakes gently use a hairdryer on the offending area.

Many years ago I heard using resin was a good way of simulating water, I could never get my hands on any though as a youngster.

IIRC, PVA glue dries clear, so if it's just a thin layer you need, perhaps that would work? I think I used that to make pools of water on my 1/35 dioramas.
