What Dinky toys did you have?

Top two i had. In a rather unusual twist, the UFO interceptor nearly cost my older brother his left eye when we were younger. I must have been about 4 or so, and stood on the top of the stairs, so he would have been 9, and was a few steps below taunting me as usual. Now i had my interceptor in my hand, looked at him, looked at it, and launched it at his face, the tail catching him mm's below his left eye, and leaving him with a lovely scar to this day.
I wasn't very popular for that one, but hardly a surprise really

I certainly had a UFO interceptor - but that's gone, I still have the tracked shadow tank, ed strikers gold car.
Other later goodies, include, Buck Rodgers, a space shuttle moonraker, the Bond Lotus, DB5, Space 1999 both models, though one is lacking a foot. A batmobile.
Plus others, I do remember Matchbox Super kings set with a cool flying car.
Some day I'll get them out of the loft.

My late uncle was handicapped ( he died when I was about 5, so don't really remember him too much) and lived with his sister (my aunt) and my uncle, until he died. He loved models, and over the years they collected literally hundreds that were stored, mint and boxed in the bedroom cupboard. Would loved to have had some of them, not from a financial point of view, more because they were so nice.
Fast forward a couple of years, my aunt passed away, and my uncle moved into a small bungalow, and had to make some space
He had a look in the Yellow Pages, found a dealer who came round, looked at them, said they weren't really "collect-able" and offered him £50 for the lot, which my uncle naively accepted...
There are some real tossers out there...

There were lots, but I particularly remember:
UFO
SHADO Interceptor
SHADO Mobile
Ed Straker's car - mine was red
Captain Scarlet
Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle
Joe 90
Flying Jet car thing with wheels on stilts
Space 1999
Eagle Transporter
Thunderbirds
T2
Ford Custom cab road sweeper
Pink Panther Car
all lost - all that survives is a Saladin armoured car, which fires the pegs from Mastermind...
Part of the issue is that many of my formative years were spent in Germany, where Siku ruled - their stuff made Dinky and Corgi look a bit sick.

My son has a few Siku models - they are very, very nice "toys", particularly the cranes/excavators.UFO

Being a child of the 70's, my staple was Corgi and Matchbox with the odd Majorette thrown in from all too infrequent jaunts abroad. Nowadays, I've regressed slightly, as I am very lucky to be able to look after and tinker with other peoples Dinky toys and return them to their former glory.
For me, the best Dinkys are the racing cars, specifically the 23 series of Formula 1 cars, which for castings of their time are massively atmospheric and when you take the heavy original paint off are actually incredibly detailed. I like them so much they're the only ones that I've worked on and display myself.

A bit high, that figure, only a couple of boxed Shetlands have gone north of £600 in recent years. A boxed mint Shetland is normally estimated at £300 - £400 by the specialist auction houses. If you want to go truly la la land on a Dinky aircraft, try for a mint boxed Vulcan. You'll be looking at 4 figures for one of those.Loads, including a British field gun that fired matchsticks, a couple of half tracks, and army landrover with camo netting, a Sea King helicopter with a fold out door and a winch, probably my favorite though was a German anti-tank gun that was made by 'Britains' who used to do loads of farm toys - it folded up and could fire plastic shells the when they ran out after a few days - matchsticks.
Britain's also did a Police helicopter which I had 2 or 3 of...

After my tour around XH588 last week I'm considering buying a white metal fake version to 'complete' my collection...if they're still available that is.
Still available, but finished ones still fetch £50 - £70. Dinkyclub currently have a batch of 10 on offer for a price of £390.Red Firecracker said:
