It depends how flexible you want it to be. Stainless steel as suggested above will be much stiffer than solder. If you want something inbetween, you might want to consider copper, which will bend more easily that stainless but be stiffer than solder.
The best source of copper wire is probably mains cable - most lighting circuit cable has a 1mm or 1.5mm core.
Make sure you get cable (the stuff that is imbeddded into walls to wire your sockets), not flex (the stuff that goes from a plug to your TV or table lamp). The cable you want is single core, so when you strip the insulation off you'll have 1mm copper, whereas flex is multicore so when you strip the insulation you'll have lots of strands of 0.05mm (or thereabouts)!
