IPMS Huddersfield Model Show
Discussion
So I thought what the hell and entered 4 models in the IPMS Huddersfield show, and won 4 prizes!
1st (Best in Class) for the Bf109-E4 in 1:32 aircraft
2nd (Highly Commended)for the Tempest V in 1:72 modified aircraft
2nd (Highly Commended)for the Globemaster in 1:144 aircraft
2nd (Highly Commended)for the Jaguar XJR9-Lm in vehicles.

I'm really happy with those results, although in truth (IMO), the first prize in class should have gone to the Jaguar, and second in class to the Bf109. but hey, I'm not complaining

Well from a "we know what you done!" start point whatever beat your Jag must have had a working fuel system and fully functioning gearbox
If the 109 should have been bested by another model it must hav been awesome
But casting aside aspersions (as we do) you have done very well, congratulations
Thanks for the other pictures, the Tiffie looks very good...
(But I wish he'd spent more time on fitting and painting the canopy and the camo on the wings looks to have "lost it" a tad) Makes me sound churlish but I like Typhoons enough to want to see the very best. I do like his engine detailing, it looks wonderful
Many of the models on your pictures are fab, I particularly liked the Caribou.
Thanks for these, again congrats.

Cheers Guys.
Perdu - the others in the 1:32 aircraft class were indeed very, very good - among them an Me 262 and a huge 'Mistel' Composite aircraft resin conversion. This is why I felt slightly embarrassed to get 1st. Didn't seem to bother the others though who were happy to have a chat. The winner of the car section was an old Alfa Romeo single seater. Extremely well finished, with engine detail, but obviously not as complicated as the XJR9 in terms of potential detail to be added. I think the quality of finish won it in the end though, but this wouldn't expain why a *really* perfectly finished Subaru Impreza didn't seem to make an imperssion with the judges.
Anyway, I was intrigued to see how my models compare with others and now I know. Room for improvement, but not bad.
The engine on that Typhoon was awesome - I considered getting one, just for the engine!

Congratulations, I'm not surprised you won some awards, although I wonder what managed to beat your Jag?
I agree with Perdu, that Caribou looks great, and thanks for the Hawk shots, looks very familiar.
Out of interest, what is the camo jet behind the Mitsubishi?
Thanks, I took the Hawk pictures with you in mind! Difficult to tell from pictures, but I think yours probably just edged it overall.I agree with Perdu, that Caribou looks great, and thanks for the Hawk shots, looks very familiar.

No idea what that jet is. It caught my eye too. It was in a display of 1/144 scale aircraft. Looks a cross between a Hunter and an Etandard.

Well done on the awards! I have been to IMPS at Telford before and there were some stunning builds , you must have done bloody well!
Any more pics of the C-17? Have a thing for big planes , debated getting a Revell 1:144 A320 to finish in Thomas Cook livery. Recommend it as a kit?

Yes there is a C-17 build log here with more pictures:

The Revell Globemaster is a superb kit. It's got full interior detail and the u/c is pretty detailled too. I chickened out on this one and missed that lot out; I just wanted to try weathering techniques rather than getting into details.
Telford, I will be there with a club now I have one
I hope to see some of those models there, there are some marvellous models in these pictures
I may enter a helicopter or so, maybe even an old racing car (for the crack)
That jet!
Looks like Hunter, Etendard and Swift all had a raucous party with imbibing of incahol and alcopop and out popped a 'plane I can't quite put my finger on...

(all of them,
as the miserable old woman on the Lidl ad says "I like Hawks")

Well done.
The day I win a competition I'll be eternally greatful.
Looks like it was a very good show overall.
Thanks Eric - I thought you'd already won a competition?The day I win a competition I'll be eternally greatful.

It was a good show - very crowded first thing, to the extent we went straight outside again. Plenty to see, but not as overwhelming as Telford.
And I only spent £10 on airbrush cleaner.

Only at my local branch.
Very commendable to get out of a model show having only spent £10.00. I don't think I'd have managed that.
I've got 10 kits in the stash, and two rebuilds. At my rate of work that's about 6 years' work. I don't need any more.Very commendable to get out of a model show having only spent £10.00. I don't think I'd have managed that.
(apart from a Tamiya Rothmans Porsche 956 of course).
