I have been given a HMS hood airfix model by the bird. I have never built a ship only planes when I was a youngster. Are ships a lot harder or about the same any tips or anything to watch out for on these?

Shar2 is "the man". His ship models are fantastic.

Like a lot of modelling, the difficulty is often as much to do with the modeller as the model. Be warned however, that this particular Airfix kit is pretty old so may not fit together as well as it did when it first came out way back in 1960 (it's almost as old as me).

Wow I thought building it was going to be complicated, looks like painting it correctly is going to be worse
