Looking to start up my collection again, starting from scratch bar two jaguar models (not great - but have sentimental value).

Looking at models I'd like in my collection and found this. Price seems good. What about quality?

Or would this be a better bet for the same money?

I would say AutoArt are the better of the two but Norev seem to have improved in the last couple of years. I have a number of AutoArt Lamborghinis and they are all good, but the new models are even better in quality (the price also goes up!). I've bought off both those dealers without any problems.

I must say that MGB is very tempting indeed. The right colour too.

The next question is; does anyone on here know anyone who'd be able to "weather" it a bit? Add a bit of rust etc...?

I have never had one of these. But it's supposed to be a very flawed model with a lot of in-accuracy.

Better off looking for an alternative.

The AutoArt one? Do you know of a better model? What about AutoArt's BMW 2000 touring?

Don't know of an alternative MG model. AUTOart messed up with the Austin Healey aswell.

Don't think they like classic British cars to be honest. Can't comment on the BMW.

The Chrysler Charger is a good one. Cheap at the moment aswell.

I'm afraid the charger doesn't interest me frown

I'm really interested in 'normal' cars you'd have seen on British roads a little before my time.

Again, it just doesn't grab me, I'm afraid. I really don't mean so to sound awful here, I really appreciate the help you've given an awful lot! - Thank you very much.

I've also found this norev article which I rather like the look of too : http://www.model-marque.com/Norev-Model-Cars/Citro... - this is going to get expensive!

I know someone who has a red one, a real one. It's either that car or one that is very close to it. Not an expert on Alfas but it looks pretty good to me. Not an expert on MGs either but I thought your initial choice also looked okay. Most manufacturers get things wrong at times. My last purchase of a Gallardo race car sits way too high, the real car hugs the ground. It's still a nice model though.

Well it looks okay from the photo. I've never bought a Norev but they've definitely got better. I mostly buy Lamborghinis so tend to stick to AutoArt, Kyosho and Minichamps. I would consider a Norev in the future though. Have you thought about an AutoArt Aston Martin DB5, that's a beautiful British sports car?

Good shout, but a little out of what I'd like to spend at the moment.

Back to the first car on the thread : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-18-Norev-Mercedes-Benz...

It certainly looks good from the photo. Try and find some more photos of it and if it still looks okay and you like it, then go for it. It does get expensive though. Most of my 1:18s are over £100 and 1:43s over £40. Start saving!

Well I've bitten the bullet and bought one of these : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUTO-ART-75351-75352-LOT...

I bought it from their online shop, rather than eBay, and got it for £24.99 inc postage. So hardly anything at steak if it's a rubbish model (shouldn't be though!).

Quite looking forward to getting it now biggrin

It's an AutoArt so it should be very good even if it's an older model. You probably won't want to stop collecting now!

Good price, too. I've bought from them before and always found them good value.
