Just got a hornby train out of the box for the first time in 2 years and its not in the best of health.

I think it just needs lubrication.

Can i use wd40, or is that the incorrect thing to be applying?

If so, what should i be using?

Ideally a light modelling oil like this:

Or the classic 3-In-1 oil - it's not perfect but more suitable than WD40.

It's specifically for model locomotives. I've just upgraded and rebuilt 5 of my old ones to DCC - it works very well, you only need a tiny amount.
