I was thinking of a series 2 in BahamasAir colours. I've got a reasonable 3 view blown up to A2 size ie somewhere around 1:60. The basic plans are now drawn but some details are not visible on then views. I'm not looking for absolute scale, just that there is nothing obvious missing. At 102 inch span minor details get rather big.
It doesn't seem to be a very well documented aircraft, guess I'll have to work with photos.

It will scratch built. Don't think that anyone has done a RC model of one before and certainly there is no sign of either a kit or plans anywhere.
I found some pictures of the Welshmodels one, I got the impression it looked a bit 'iffy'?
In what way?I found some pictures of the Welshmodels one, I got the impression it looked a bit 'iffy'?
It's a vacform so will have the inherent build problems associated with that form of model but it is the onl;y kit of the aircraft out theere, as far as I know. There may be smaller scale white metal ones out there too.
Here you go hope they are of use.
G-BEJE was a series 1 these pictures were taken around 1998 at Blackpool just before we stripped it to spares.

G-AYYG came in from mount cook new zealand it became G-OSOE.

the pics of G-ATMI were just after a runway excursion at liverpool AAIB report about it on the net if interested.

G-BIUV in the very early Emerald paint scheme at Liverpool

G-BPDA the first 748 to come on fleet with Emerald being loaded at Blackpool around 1990 re reg G-ORAL nose section in preservation(wirral area).

G-BGMN with Jersey European at Blackpool...Emerald eventually acquired MN

The plans for the fuse, tail and nacelles are drawn now and most of the sections are done. Have started on the wing this morning. Only one question at the moment. It looks like the lower rear of the nacelles overlaps the flaps but is not attached to the flap? ie the flaps track rearwards out of this slot and no part of the nacelle moves?
Thanks for the offer of the model but if all goes to plan I shall need all the spare space in the workshop!

Good question, I don't think there is any particular reason, just things like:
never seen one modelled before, I like the high aspect ratio wing, it's not a technically challenging shape....
It's a little early to nail down the power yet but I'm working along the lines of 1kW brushless electric each side on 12x8 3 blade props. That puts the target AUW around 7 kg.

correct
The aft structure of the nacelle had a jetpipe tray over the flap and did not move in any way.

The 748 is an interesting aircraft in that it was Avro's last production aircraft. I wonder did any of the techniques used in its construction carry over from the ill-fated Tudor?
Eric not sure if true or not but an old timer on the 748 told me certain parts on the 748 were almost direct copies of part used on Lancasters iirc he mentioned trim wheels and rudder bars/pedals?Forum | Scale Models | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
