My Dad's Albatross
Discussion
About 22 years ago my Dad built a 1/6th scale Albatross DvA. It was to be prowered by a Merco .61 engine have working rigging wires etc. It was built from a free plan in Radio Control Scale Quarterley Magazine. It was built whilst I was still at home and just before I joined the forces, my Dad and I used to do a lot of RC modelling, I was the pilot and he was the builder.
Anyway as I went off to join up, the model was never flown. It has basicly sat in their garage for 22 years.
Last week I noticed that it was still there so I asked my Dad if I could take it away to get it flying. He was really pleased that it might finally take to the air. Due to illness my Dad can't make it to the flying field anymore, so my plan is to have the maiden flight video'd so he can see it.
I have made a few changes to the airframe:
removed the engine and replaced it with a powerfull electric motor.
replaced the rigging wires and clevices as they weren't looking too good after 22 years
removed some of the hefty bracing that was required for a stinky IC engine (making the model lighter and also making room for a Benedini sound unit and speakers.
I have the sound unit on order so once installed, the model should sound like the real thing.
Assembled on th etanble before starting on the motor mount

Modified motor mount

First check of the motor in the garden.

Just realised watching that video, it really needs a pilot.
Yes I know, cool story bro etc but what the hell.

Had to do the first flight on my own with a camera mounted on a tripod.
She is to heavy due to the sound equipment so fly's way to fast.
The sound as she fly's past on the landing is quite nice though, shame that my runway is a tad thin at the end
