After much scepticism I decided to buy a Shengqi Baja (which I believe is the same as a KM Baja and Rovan). I am aware that it is a clone of a HPI Baja and thus I have committed a great sin in purchasing it but I do also have a HPI Baja which was not the most robust thing so my expectations are extremely low with the Shengqi.

It seems I was correct in having extremely low expectations when I noticed that the rear hub was somehow broken out of the box and all 4 shocks were leaking (the packaging was not damaged at all!). The box it came in was soaked in shock oil. The delivery man gave me a strange look as he handed the box over, was probably thinking what on earth I was going to do with 15kg of lube

Anyway, not a problem, I called the supplier and they will send me free replacement parts and oil, so I'll let it break in for now. The engine fires right up although with a large crack and it ejects bits of plastic from somewhere, I ignore it (probably a mistake). At this point I notice that the exhaust is not welded up properly and it's blowing oil out everywhere, so add a new exhaust to the list. I'd like to turn it into a 'stealth' baja.
Anyway, I will upgrade parts on this as it breaks and use this thread to keep tabs on what I've done. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the car holds up.

How are you getting on with it?
I just bought a KM Baja - Bloody brilliant.
Only downside is she took in some sand and had to rebuild her after day one.
But apart from that I have been doing some BIG jumps with it, rolled it alot and still no broken anything.
The Shenqi ones are made by Nitrotek and they have a terrible rep but in saying that my mate has the Hummer Shenqi and has had no issues with it.
The KMs are awesome as all the HPI parts are the same so easy to hop it up.
Mods to help it survive
Rovan Filter sock
Rovan Pullstart cover
Shock socks
Windows to keep the water out
The shell looks crap going to make one or buy a decent looking pre painted one.

I wanted a KM but struggled to find one in the UK, then the few that I did find we're already modified from the factory a bit which took the price up to near HPI Baja prices so I just got bought the Shengqi.
Plans for the Shengqi are just to replace bits on it as they break. In a few years I hope to have a car which does not share a single nut or bolt with what it originally was, so it will be purely modifications. Just need to save money for all the carbon I'm going to need and a decent engine! But that will take a few years so in the meantime I will upgrade the cheaper things.
Also I only drive it on tarmac or short grass now. Leave the nitro trucks to do the big jumps because I learnt that the hard way with my old Baja. They just weigh so much so they are prone to breaking a lot more!
All I have done so far is break it in and go through a tank of petrol, it's good only the throttle servo came lose from where it attaches to the brake linkage. Put on a shiny new exhaust too.

With your body you can just wrap it in carbon fibre, it will look quite convincing like on my Baja.

Well impressed with it so far.Picked up some spares on ebay for when i smash it up.
Fits nicely in the boot of the M3 aswell haha.
Was doing jumps with it at the quarry and it held itself together apart from a engine mount bolt coming loose.
