While the Cutty Sark is taking a back seat while I get my mind around masts and rigging, and the Samba Bus is sitting there looking at me, but I can't decide what colour, I was thinking maybe a famous building might be fun.
I've completed the 3D foam effort that is the Mont St. Michel, and I have been cracking on with the 3D Foam Eiffel Tower - complete to 1er Etage. (These were freebies so I thought why not).

Spent a few days in Budapest recently and their parliament building is stunning, also thought perhaps the Burj might be fun, or indeed our won parliament buildings. Google gives me a few hits on foam/cardboard/matchsticks but nothing of an 'Airfix' type.

Any ideas?

Dapol - model buildings for railway layouts.

But generic buildings rather than specific "famous" buildings.

Thanks Eric, I did find lots of railway buildings and WWII half destroyed stuff, I'm more looking for 'real' buildings.

Actually the Lego is quite fun. Building a small collection of cheap stuff. But £200 on a model - not sure I'd get away with that. smile

What about card models? Buildings are an ideal subject for card models since they're (normally) straight edged.

Marcle ( www.marcle.co.uk) are one of the main UK suppliers, take a look at their catalogue - they have all sorts from reprints of the old 1950's Micromodels (the Vatican, the White House etc) which are postcard sized) up to Schreiber's Empire State Building which is well over a metre tall.

If you've got an inkjet printer and some white A4 card there are plenty of free models that you can download and print, although the quality of these is often variable.

Yes, I found their website before and am tempted by some of them, they are certainly my back up. Also found some motorbikes that might be fun.

OT on my own thread. When I was a lad I had a book of lots of different car templates that you copied on to card, cut out and stuck together - hours of fun.

Not necessarily famous landmarks, but the German model railway people like Faller and Vollmer produce some nice building kits - you can make some very nice cityscapes. They are often to be found on ebay.

The best thing to do is have a look in the model railway magazines, there are loads of buildings available, but they all tend to be domestic in nature.
