My boy who is nearly 7 currently has a 'micro scalextric' set and a healthy fascination with the Bugatti Veyron.

I spotted the set below at Toys R Us which could be an upgrade from his 'micro' and tick the Veyron box....what do you guys reckon?

Okay as a starter set or rubbish, look elsewhere?

It's ok mate they are all kinda starter sets really. Just some have longer tracks than others and different cars.

You can buy extra track / cars if you get the bug.

That looks like a good set. The track it comes with is quite easy to master and they Veyrons look 'crash resistant', i.e. the cars don't get damaged in crashes.

The set has a cross-roads. Crash resistant or not those cars are going to get knackered as crashing the cars in to each other is far too amusing to resist. And if it's not your kids, it will be their friends.

At 80 quid I'd say just go for it. be prepared for the cars to take a bit of damage but they aren't massively detailed and so there aren't too many parts which can come off. It is a fairly basic set, but it will allow your son to enjoy "driving" a Veyron which ticks a lot a boys' boxes these days. As said, you can always add track and a few accessories to make it more interesting as time goes by.
