Calling all Model Builders!

Are you an enthusiastic modeller, kit-basher, scratch builder or model engineer, or do you know of one?

If you would like to help me with some interesting 3D printing work, by fine finishing our 3D printer output to a "display" standard, please reply to this thread or drop me PM.

The models are of subsea structures for the offshore oil & gas business, printed at anything from 1:5 to 1:50 scale, depending on the original size of the component being modelled. The model build envelope is 8" x 8" x 6" although the larger models could consist of several units put together in this size. base material of our models is ABS plastic and the modelling process is FDM.

Requirements:

Patience
Steady Hand
Fettling and fitting up of small plastic assemblies
Possible scratch building of fine parts in brass wire or etched brass sheet
Airbrush painting
Hand painting/detailing of small parts
Weathering
Making and applying custom decals/stickers
Able to work unsupervised, from drawings, sketches and photos to strict deadline.
Part time, home/hobby type work.
Fees by agreement.

For me, model making is a hobby and I want to keep it that way.

Also, I wouldn't consider myself good enough to take on a professional commission.

Trust me, Eric, your work is easily high enough to charge for. You should see some of the 'professionally built' models I've had to rework recently. The annoying thing is, the client ends up paying twice and normally the original builder has charged like a wounded rhino.

For me modelling is fun - and agreeing to do it for money would take the fun out of it.

If I thought I could - consistently - earn the same from model building as my day job, I'd seriously consider it.
