Hi guys, have a quick question...wanted to add a personal touch to a scale model I just bought!

Is there a place where I could have a small UK license plate done in 1/12 scale?

Or is there some kind of kits you could buy to do one yourself?

It might be a stupid question, but I'm not really knowledgeable in scale models.

Thanks a lot for your help,
Max

This is a "LICENSE Plate" -

This is a "LICENCE Plate" - (or more correctly, a "Registration Plate")

Apologies, no longer knocking those out. They're very easy to produce yourself though, you just need to be aware of the printable white issue. As you can't cut too close to inkjet printed decals, the easiest way is to print onto clear paper and then use either paint or white decal paper to provide a white base to put your decals onto.

Any advice you need, just yell.

Thanks a lot for that, I have a normal inkjet printer at home, would that be fine?

The clear paper you are referring to is some kind of special paper? Do you know where I can get this from?

Thanks again!

Yep, if you follow the link that sgrimshaw posted above to Crafty Computer Paper, they have the paper you require. Make sure you order the correct one for your printer. they also have some instructions and guides on their pages.

Once you've designed the artwork (the font you require is called 'UKNumberPlate') you can then print onto that paper. Once it is dry, you then need to clear coat it (normal car lacquer will do) so that the print doesn't run away when you wet the backing paper. When you're clear coating you need to use light coats for the same reason. When you cut them out, make sure you don;t cut too close to the print, otherwise it'll run. It's best to print several sets to allow for 'issues'.

1/12th scale plates will be approx 52mm long and 11.2mm high

Long time lurker - first time post. Try this link for number plates of all kinds

http://www.licenseplates.tv/european-plates.html

And if you are after US plates, go here:

http://www.acme.com/licensemaker/

Depending on scale you can decide to print onto decal sheet or fine paper.

What model will the reg plate be going on? Would it not be easier to cut the blank plate to size from a plastic card sheet and use either rub on letters of the right colour and size from a sheet of lettraset or look at the Microscale site http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?S... got to be a type face here that is close to UK spec and size.
