Nitro engines / Hobao Hyper 7
Discussion
Chaps,
I'm considering having a look through the bay of e for a used nitro engined Hyper 7 after having a play with a friend's over the weekend, he's offered some tips and advice though he's relatively new to the hobby himself so I thought I'd ask a few questions here as well
I used to race buggies 20+ years back but never nitro and I've been out of the loop since then, what hints/tips/need to know advice can you impart with regards to running and maintaining a nitro engine? Will pull starts suffice or is it really worth investing in drill starts or a starter box (friend has a starter box which seems to be pretty useful)?
I'm aware that an uprated metal geared steering servo is a must as is a transmitter fail-safe, anything else that is regarded as a necessity? I know that various hop-ups exist but the car will be used for fun only rather than anything competitive, I'd just like it to be as reliable and as strong as possible.
Finally, am I correct in assuming that a Hyper 7 will generally be up to the task of bashing about? My aforementioned mate has a whole bucket full of spares as well which adds to the appeal of getting the same car.

I too have A PBS with the 8 port engine, the H7 is a very good solid car and the engines are a doddle to tune, just don't run it too lean/hot and it will last ages. Def get a fail safe and uprated servos, the steering one is a must but the throttle one does improve the braking (particularly as I have the quad brake setup)
Get it, run it and have fun, they are cheap fast and strong with loads of cheap spares and upgrades available.
Here is mine...

Well my bid on one was successful so I guess that there's no turning back now! Fingers crossed that it's a good runner, I don't mind having a good tinker, in fact I'm looking forward to it, I just hope that it all works straight out of the box so I can give it a bit of a blast sooner rather than later!
Hyper 7's are a good solid bit of kit. They used to be fairly popular cars to race. Plenty good enough for messing about with.
Pull starts are rubbish + a non pull start engine will have more grunt.
You dont need but a heat gun is handy for nitro cars just to see what the engine is doing. Metal gear servo's, failsafe is about all you need really.
