I've recently picked up an old Airfix (previously Heller) 1/24 Mercedes 500K which I plan to complete as per the example in the Mercedes museum. It's a strange kit in some ways with fully chromed doors and other parts that need painted over the chrome and will benefit from some added details.

Despite having visited the museum earlier in the year and taken plenty of photos I have no idea how the chassis is painted.

I'm assuming it's painted in the body colour but can anyone out there confirm or point me in the direction of a good source of photos? Google Images has plenty topside but none underneath.

Cars if that era usually just have the chassis painted in a thick layer of undercoat black as the body and arches usually just sat on top of it and covered it so there wouldn't have been a need to paint it.

Found this pic of the 1/8 Pocher kit someone has built. Pocher kits of this size are very expensive (the F40 kit was around £900!) and usually only bought and built by very experienced or professional builders so it would be safe to assume this chassis is about as accurate as it gets.

Thanks for this, looks like black it is. I'm doing a G4/W31 at the same time and it's definitely black although much of the rest of that car is black anyway.
