I yearned for a Sand Scorcher in my 'yoof', but couldn't afford one. By the time I'd saved up enough for a Tamiya R/C, the SS was out of production, so I ended up with a BigWig (which I loved and had until just a year or two ago when I finally parted with it). My interest in R/C was then re-kindled when I bought a re-release Vanessa's Lunchbox so that my son could learn to drive R/C.

So when the Buggy Champ was re-released, I was excited.... but disappoint not to see the Scorcher. When they then released said 'legendary' model, well, I had to get it (but it's taken me a while to get around to it!). Of course, if you have one, you have to have both (in fact, I have 2 SS's now - don't tell the wife! - one for show and one for go).

Can't wait to build them yes

I'm about to turn 44 so see why you share the affinity for them smile

Have you built it? I'm staying with the box art design for the body thumbup

Will post build when I get going with them :yes;

The rolling chassis is built and body will be as box art but I want to build the shell as the original release, that means new mirrors, door handles, rear lights and number plates - all available off the net for fellow anoraks. The harder bit is changing the wheel arch profile as the shell was modified when it became Monster Beetle - to back date the current shell needs the sacrifice of a beaten up original ........... Or if you can find one, a tidy or new one!

Heheh, you sound like me!

I bought a re-re Sandie a couple of years ago, and built it over my Christmas Holiday for that full 'feel like a 12-year old again' effect..! biggrin

Here's a pic of it being thrapped around Bournemouth beach last year:

I had the Buggy champ when I was about 10, my old man made it, we found it not long ago, was in a very sorry state.

The battery pack was woefull then but they are much much better now, may get an R\C Tamiya soon, but I always wanted the 1/16th Tiger Tank but at some £600 is a bit salty, considering my stash shelves are groaning with Tamiya plastic as it is!

Enjoy your build smile

I think I read that Tamiya never registered the name way back then and come re-re time found they no longer had rights to it.

The only change I made to my build was to fit the Hop-Up option ball diff - worth considering before starting the gearbox assembly.

Thanks - was considering the ball diff for both. Any other hop-ups worth considering?

I do have a set of '79 spec stickers as I wanted it to look as 1979 as I could but thought I could get away with the diff, the re-re all come with ballraces and that's the other mod I'd have done ........ but as you have a spare SS to run why not go for rear wishbones, cv's and coilovers (in his "other items") wink

More Spends .....
