1/18 scale made to order?

I heard (via the wife so probs b0ll0cks) that you can have any car made into a 1/18 scale model. You send a company X amount of photos, some money and they send in return a perfect scale model of your current ride.

Any truth in that?

Googling "custom scale car models" brings up a few, mainly in the USA. About $600+

I'd imagine this is another decent use of 3D scanning and printing technology though. At a recent show (Race Retro maybe) there was a stand showing a 3D scanner that was taking details off a car shell, presumably to enable replacement body panels to be manufactured.

I'd really like some 1:18 scale models of my cars - there are some 1:43 coming through now, but I don't think the detail is good enough for the cost (which is down to the low volume production) where a decent 1:18 is that much easier to make good. But I doubt I'd be prepared to pay $600+ for one, I didn't pay much more than that for the real car.

Never heard of that before but if you want a model modifying to your spec then there are some on facebook that will do so. Say you want 1/18 Ford Escort Mk2 Ghia (the only in 1/18) turning into a Harrier with the correct RS wheels.

There are posters on here who will do you a custom model. There's even a thread on it. Depends what you're after.
