ScaleX Burrell 1/16 traction engine build thread

Kit arrived a few days ago.

Very impressed with the quality of the kit parts.

A few pictures of the parts on their sprues to get the ball rolling.

Box cover and paints bought.

Enamel paints for boiler wheels and some trim

There’s a lot of sprue to cut off isn’t there. Is the plastic quite soft?

Fairly.

But it is a PITA.

You also have to rub the bit down most of the time.

Will take my time and only do the bits I require at a time to prevent boredom

A little progress.

Just clipped together.

Will now touch up some areas before assembly.

Fit and moulding is first rate.

Quite pleased with it.

Well now look at applying transfers while is is easyish to get to.

Bit of a hold up today.

Looks like they duplicated a sprue.

Now waiting for the missing sprue.

The main part is now done.

Touch ups aside.

One hint for anyone considering building the kit is to look ahead for parts that when applied will make applying decals difficult.

I managed to avoid the issue but twas luck ...

The decals are good quality but difficult to place accurately.

Finished with the decals.

Had an issue with missing parts, now resolved, if you buy one take an hour or two to make sure all parts are there.

scaleX printed them all off again and I am ready for the finishing bits.

Get the other bits painted up then it's full assembly time.

That looks fantastic. Are you going to get a case for it? I'd expect the parts are quite brittle.

That is the plan. I bought the kit to give to my friend who is not well . He is a life long steam engine enthusiast and the updates have cheered him up no end. Will be doing a base and the case to cover it up. It is an excellent kit to build. They have done it in 1/35 scale as well.
