Kango Imobiliser - Help!
Discussion
Hi mate thats basically telling you that its immobilised due to some problem, best bet is get it taken to ranault and get it on the diagnostic machine, this way you can see if the chip in the key is being red or if there is any stored and current fault codes on the system ( I am a ex nissan/renault tech and seen this problem alot) but due to there being several variables its not easy to guess but there is one test you can perform. if you have another ignition key try using it but make sure that the key that is not working is outside the car ( ocasionally the ring decoder car pick up both signals from car keys if one is faulty) let me know how you get on mate
Sorry, is it infra-red or RF?
I'm a Renault tech and as Scorchio it's hard to try and diagnose without Clip, but most frequently in my experience, it's due to a faulty plip-key.
If it's infra-red (i.e. you have to aim it at the car to get it to operate the door locks) you can get your mobile phone camera, aim the camera at the front end of the plip key and press the button. You should see a white/violet light, emit from the plip if it's operative...otherwise it's got a flat battery, or it's fecked!
If it's infra-red, your ring decoder isn't picking up the signal from the chip inside the key. Sometimes you can get this reprogrammed (interferance from TV's, Radio's etc can de-synch the keys) but chances are, you'll be buying a nice new shiny plip key - unfortunately.

Thanks for replies.
What happened is neither of the two plips worked - one had the switch broken off the pcb and the other had a flat battery. I had been opening the van manually with the keys, that also both worked in the ignition and started the van OK.
I put a new battery in the plip, which got the red led on the key flashing again when you pressed the button but then found neither key would start the engine.
I now know how much a new key is
Is there any way the immobiliser can be bypassed or disconnected? It's hardly needed on an old shed of a van and it's £100 for a key + diagnostics I coud do with out spending at the moment.

Found an envelope of old keys in the glovebox (only bought the van on thursday). Some broken, some with bits missing. One of the broken keys cancels the imobiliser if it's held right next to the key in the ignition and the van now starts
So I guess I need the key that fits the ignition barrel and turns coded to the same as the broken one? Any ideas who could do this quickly - I'm in Mid Essex - and without me getting robbed at the main stealer?
