we're going up to scotland in a few weeks and we normally do a fair bit of outdoor stuff whilst we are there. We do have 2 young kids mind so i wouldn't say we'd be quite in the 'sport' category although struggled to see where else i could put this thread... anyway when we were out walking last time around the same time of year, we ended up cutting through some longer grass (and i now see my own error) and i ended up with a tick on my leg. No lasting effects fortunately, but lesson learned. I'd have previously just walked in shorts, but i think now I'd like to get some longer walking trousers that are lightweight enough so as to not cause issues even if it's warm, but to protect me from any hangers-on. Recommendations please?

thanks

Craghoppers are cheap, cheerful, and quick drying.

If it's just casual stuff to cover the legs, the Decathlon hiking wear isn't too bad. I think I had a pair you could unzip into shorts, not the definitive of cool, but they did work in keeping your legs cool!

I had a pair of Craghoppers Kiwi trousers and they were good too. Breathable and water resistant.

Check out Rohan for a few options. Costly though but fabulous stuff.

Or use tick repellent, eg Deet etc

I have managed to get some ticks on me and even when wearing trousers. Tuck them into your socks for safety sake.

Would also say to get a tick tool - much easier than trying to do it with a credit card/tweezers and better than leaving them in place and having a kid scratch/pull one out.
