As a non English person, I was actually hoping that they would win the bid, but unfortunately not.

However, the posts on "Qatar - where?", "Russia gave a big bung", "Beckham was doing it for the money", "you can't get a drink in Qatar!", "Russia is too far", "Russia is too cold", "Qatar is too warm" etc perhaps proves why you didn't get it.

Be gallant, pass on the regards to the winners and take it like a man

UK did win, it is not paying for it all.

Cost of policing, tidying up, managing the disruption on the roads etc.....

I'm welsh and don't like football so it dosn't really bother me, but it would have been nice if england had got the world cup for the economy and all that.

Football is st anyway. The financial benefits are a greater loss for the country as far as i am concerned.

Sorry, what didn't we win?

I assume on the basis that I don't know, it means I don't give a toss either

I think all PH football-related thread replies should be tagged to let the rest of us know if the poster is a footy fan or not.

(I am a footy fan)

They might have not won the bid but im sure they will drone on about how they will win it anyway. They will now have to travel further to throw plastic chairs at other fans now oh well

It's a shame we didn't manage to fail so miserably at the Olympics. If Arab countries want to shell out a fortune on vanity projects, that's fine by me. What really fks me off is seeing people who we are paying to run the country running around whoring themselves in Switzerland instead.

You're right to make the link between F1 and football.

We didn't win because we have nothing to offer FIFA in terms of growing their business.

These Middle East and Asian countries represent huge areas of potential growth just as Bernie E. realised a few years ago.

It's all very distressing for the traditional footballing nations but that's just the way of sports like F1 and football that are run as a business.

To paraphrase Paul Merton: Whats the point of having it here when all the games will be on TV anyway?

Bearing in mind that FIFA probably IS corrupt, and bearing in mind we should have realised that there was no way on earth we were EVER going to be awarded the WC as long as Blatter was in charge, we should have withdrawn our bid at the 11th hour as a protest.

And we should never waste the money on it again.

It's akin to the Eurovision Song Contest - political bks.
