removal of turbo on 84 esprit
Discussion
what steps are taken too remove turbo on 84 esprit, my turbo has 50k on her, and from time too time it seems too lock up and start dumping oil causing a james bond smoke screen effect, i found a place in ca. called a-1 turbo too rebuild but need too remove too ship out, does rear panel drop so turbo can be accessed easier. thanks for any advise. 1. Jack up the left rear side of the car.
2. Remove wheel
3. Remove exhaust system
4. Disconnect oil feed and oil drain for turbo
5. Disconnect cooling hoses
6. Disconnect air intake form turbo
7. Remove four turbo bolts holding it to the exhaust manifold. Get ready for some tight spaces here, I had to cut a 12mm 6 in ch wrench down to about 1.5 inches to get the worst one out.
Not too bad but it takes a long time the first time.

Hi,
Ron's description is good. But on a USA model '84, you may also need to remove the air injection pump/pulley/'V'belt, bracket and belt housing. That's assuming it's stock and the air injection system is still in place. Besides mine, I have never seen another USA 'G' model which still has it, and I have removed mine as well. Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE
