Saturday I got the Lotus out of the shop after some fairly extensive service. Unfortuantely, it came back with a leak in the coolant system so it went right back that day.

In the brief time I was driving it, I noticed the oil pressure gauge had gone to "5" at times..... even at 2500 RPM. I'm concerned as to what might be causing this - checked the oil level (engine was warm) and it was fine). As I did drive it, the pressure did seem to lower some, but still seemed on the high side as compared to it going in the shop.

The work performed consised of a new clutch, master cylinder, a/c recharge, and turbo rebuild. Don't know if any of these (or something not being done corectly) could have contributed or not.

Any ideas????

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,

Tell us a little more about the turbo rebuild, what was rebuilt replaced? Did they do an oil change when reinstalling the Turbo? Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE

Jim,

The turbo rebuild was done by Majestic Turbo in Dallas. Mike @ the company told me something had gotten into it and damaged the vanes. They did a total rebuild/refurbish on it.

I had the oil changed the last time the car was in the shop (Apr). Don't think they changed it again this soon.

As I drove a little (lower RMPs) the pressure did go down a little (to about 4 if I can remember how the gauge is graduated). But as I said earlier, it was almost in the red zone (if I can remember correctly, I think there is a red area in the oil pressure gauge).

On the bright side.... the rear quarter windows look great now that they have been repainted, resealed and tinted. The glass shop that did the work made it look like new!

something got in the turbo?????
I find that difficult to believe....

was this backed up by anything? what evidence was there? was this on the compressor side or the exhaust side? anthing that passes through the compressor will eventually pass the otherside.... I suppose the impellor could break itself..

People are amazing that they believe anything a mechanic tells them... Not that you did not need a new bearing or something, but "something" getting into the system is fairly severe.... not to be taken lightly.

My oil pressure gauge reads out way too low at all times. I had it checked out twice and the actual pressure is perfect, it is the gauge that is bogus.

I agree about "something getting in the turbo" sounding strange......... I don't feel like someone is trying to take advantage of me as it was a third part (NOT the dealer who I'm losing faith in very rapidly after this last round). Four miles on the car out of the shop and it has to go back. Needless to say I am NOT happy.

The gauge was working fine when the car went into the shop........ who knows WHAT was done to it there.
