Just for ha-ha's, I did a simple 1/4-mile run in the Esprit today... and on a deserted road which is in a construction area, so I was safe and responsible. Anyway, here's the data the G-Tech recorded from a dead stop:

- distance points:

60 ft. - 2.028 sec.
330 ft. - 5.397 sec.
1000 ft. - 10.483 sec.
1/8 mile. - 8.164 sec. @ 92.36 mph
1/4 mile. - 12.440 sec. @ 116.81 mph

- speed points:

0 - 30: 2.145 sec.
0 - 40: 3.120 sec.
0 - 50: 3.767 sec.
0 - 60: 4.662 sec.
0 - 70: 5.613 sec.
0 - 80: 7.128 sec.
0 - 90: 8.392 sec.
0 - 100: 9.703 sec.
0 - 110: 11.710 sec.
0 - 120: 13.598 sec. (lifted off throttle about here)

Overall, not that unhappy with the performance, although I started easy enough with zero abuse on the clutch or gearbox, I still get some wheel-hop in first gear. Beyond this, it's just solid gear-n-go.

Shift points according to the G-Tech were:

1st-2nd: 38 mph
2nd-3rd: 71 mph
3rd-4th: 103 mph

I never went beyond 4th gear... no reason

Sounded like fun, did you put the car in overboost before you took off? The results are great considering you say you didn't really give it too much stick.

I've heard that the V8 has an overboost capability but nothing more, ie, how to enable or whether it is real, hence just a standard run. No feathering of clutch, just an easy but firm engagement at ~ 2800 RPM or so.

Also had my Ease Scantool on record mode. It's a nice feature but no download capability or peak hold features for playback, but it showed pretty much full boost (about 0.8 bar) for heavy throttle periods and also confirmed the RPM peaks, etc.

I could probably coax better times, but I think it's probably sufficient to say the Esprit V8 is pretty quick.

Damn. I am especially impressed with your run to 100mph. That beats the officially Lotus claim of 10.5 sec by about 8/10 of a second. An eternity in car speed terms. Is your car bone stock?

Check out the following link for a 1/4 mile competition where Esprit came in 2nd place (F355 in 4th) and managed 12.85 sec, which you also bested. They say they launched with a fair amount of clutch slippage around 3000rpm.

KM...

Do you think our recent "cold snap" has helped your run times? The reason I ask - my car always seems to run better, faster, stronger in cooler weather...

Mine is stock except for ITG oiled-foam air filters. The G-Tech is pretty accurate so I tend to believe the numbers. I also think the cold weather we've had (was in the lower 60's) certainly helps. Intake air temp was down around 120 degrees according to the Ease Scantool.

I decided to try another run later as the outside temp dipped even lower, but it was a bust... power came on so strong that I lost traction in the first two gears with relative ease (no pun intended). The G-Tech showed a power peak of 292 HP (rear wheel) while the first run was 286 HP.

In any case, it's convinced me that adding intercoolers will be a nice update to increase engine life as well as power output while keeping the stock ECM.

Now I need to just go back to driving for pure enjoyment...

KM - thanks for posting those figures, thats great info. Your 0-100 is a great time, especially as you were being careful with shifts etc. The factory figures for my V8-GT actually claimed 9.5 so i think you've proved the 10.5 seconds that lotus usa publish is very, very conservative..

Rob, et al,

Here's a few screen shots from the G-Tech PASS application, hopefully they show up okay.
