Happy new year everybody!!!

A topic that came up in my circle of car nuts over the holiday was driving tunes. So, I pose this question (curiously) to all you Lotus Esprit Owners....

What are your top 5 driving tunes???
For me: (in no particular order)
Can't drive 55 Sammy Hagar
Theme to Miami Vice Jan Hammer
Everybody Wants to Rule the World Tears for Fears
Nobody Rides for Free Ratt
In the Long Run Eagles

I'll take any repeats and compile the "Best List" later!!!

Master of the Universe (Hawkwind)
Key Lyrics - "I am the master of this Universe, The winds of time are blowing through me...and its all moving relative to me"

Brainstorm (Hawkwind)
Standing on the runway waiting for take off
I wanna fly, wanna watch me flake off
I can't move 'cos the man has a rake off
You've gotta help me, help me to shake off

This body of mine
I gotta get out of this void
This body of mine
Cos I don't wanna be destroyed
This body of mine
And I don't wanna turn android
This body of mine
You've gotta help me avoid that
Brainstorm
Here I go
Brainstorm
Flying low
Brainstorm
I'm gonna miss it
Brainstorm
You bet I'll kiss it

Can't get no peace till I get into motion
Sign my release from this planet's erosion
Paranoia police have sussed out my potion
You gotta help me or there'll be an explosion in

This body of mine

Damnation Alley (Hawkwind)
i've got the serum
and i'm going to take it
all the way to boston
oh i've got to get through
the going won't be easy
but i'm going to make it
it's the only thing
that i'm cut out to do
ride the post-atomic
radio-active trash
the sky is on fire
from that nuclear flash
diving through the burning hoop
of doom
in an 8-wheeled anti-radiation tomb.
thank you doctor strangelove
for going doolally
and leaving me the heritage
of damnation alley
damnation alley-way.

no more arizona now
phoenix is fried up
oklahoma city
what a pity it's gone.
louisianna's wiped out
and the
mississip's dried up
no more chattanooga
cherokee,
lexington.
ride the post-atomic radio-active trash.
the sky is on fire from that nuclear flash.
diving through the burning hoop of doom.
in an 8-wheeled anti-radiation tomb.
thank you doctor strangelove
for going doolally
and leaving me the heritage
of damnation alley
damnation alley-way.

craters coming at me now
ashes coming at me
radiation wasteland
i've got my anti radiation machine
oh thank you doctor strangelove
for giving me ashes and post-atomic dust
and the sky is raining fishes
it's a mutation zoo
i'm going down damnation alley
well good luck to you......
.........................
armour-plated angel
motor pony express
going down damnation alley
it's one hell of a mess
the sky is raining fishes
it's a mutation zoo
i'm going down damnation alley
well good luck to you.

Kings of Speed (Hawkwind)
Kings of speed, kings of speed, we're gonna make you, kings
of speed, kings of speed
Between you and me Mr. C, I think we have what these boys need
Step this way lads, it ain't no lie,
Try your luck and be the human fly
Kings of speed, kings of speed, we're gonna make you, kings
of speed, kings of speed
We're gonna take a tasty trip on Frank and Beasley's rocket ship
The biggest attraction, the brightest star, boys
you're going fast and far
Kings of speed, kings of speed, we're gonna make you, kings
of speed, kings of speed
We guarantee you the sweetest ride
You'll go so far you'll think you've died
Step this way lads it ain't no lie
Try your luck and reach the sky

Orgone Acumulator (Hawkwind)
I've got an Orgone Accumulator
It makes me feel greater
I'll see you sometime later
When I'm through with my Accumulator

It's no social integrator
It's a one man isolator
It's a back brain stimulator
It's a cerebral vibrator

Those energy stimulators
Turn your eyeballs into crators
But an Orgone Accumulator
Is a superman creator

It's no social integrator
It's a one man isolator
It's a back brain stimulator
It's a cerebral vibrator

I've got an Orgone Accumulator
And it makes me feel grater
I'll see you sometime later
When I'm through with my Accumulator

Sorry about the heavy Hawkwind bias here - but I challenge any rock nut not to plant the foot just a little harder on the loud pedal when these kick in!

Happy new year, Steve and Kay (and yes she does drive it ...lots!) aka Hotwheels (Red 88 HC Turbo with a "funny" numberplate...Midlands UK)

Couldnt list just 5 but heres mine in no particular order:-

Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics or Marylin Manson
The riverboat song - Ocean Colour Scene
Hold Me - U2 (Probably get slated for this!)
Fascinating Rythm - Bass O Matic
Children of the Revolution - T Rex
Dont fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster cult (?)
Insomnia - Faithless
Sex Machine - James Brown
Cosmic Girls - Jamiroquai
You remind me - Nickleback
Starlight - Superman Lovers
Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini - Rachmaninoff

A varied selection but must confess to a more classical taste if I want to 'make progress' and have the window open to hear her own ensemble. Unless I'm having a having a real shitty day and need to clear the air. In which case its 'The Riverboat'.

What's this? Nobody listed Wagner's Ride Of The Valkyries? Excellent passing music when pulling away from a 911 ...

...and no Monty Norman "James Bond Theme"? Right, like you haven't listened to it even once...

Speaking of Bond - the classic music girl group of that name has some excellent music in their recent remix album. No vocals, but very good driving music...

I shall collect my anorak at the door

Okay, here goes. First. thanks to all that replied. Second I have been forced to change the question as the answers seemed tooooo many and toooo far between to narrow down 5 songs. So, at the suggestion of a fellow local car club member with a 308GTS, I have decided to list the top 10 bands. I had over 150 responses to this question from various car clubs here, then all you guys, and the Ferrai club near by (of coures the Maginum P.I. theme seemed to be prevalant as number 1 in that crowd).
Top 10 calculated by number of repeats. There were a couple ties, I put my favorite first as a tie breaker...
Drum rollllll.....

10)Pink Floyd
9)Steve Miller Band
8)Peter Gabriel... THE surpize
7)Jimmie Hendrix
6)Eagles
5)Metallica
4)Blue Oyster Cult
3)Led Zepplin *** tie
2)Judas Priest *** tie breaker (nobody shoot at me)
1)Sammy Hagar...
by vitue of the fact the Can't drive 55 was
repeated over 60 times!

Intersting results given the age differences and geographic locations of the owners.

My personal runner ups! Song titles (not bands)
in no particular order:
Smooth Operator - Sade (great on beach drives)
Miami Vice - Jan Hammer
The theme from Shaft - Isac Hayes
Detroit Rock City - KISS
Burnin' for You - Blue Oyster Cult

Back in my wild band playing days we actually used to play that song at the top of the second set! Then the band changed, players changes, the music changed, and I gave up the band thing... good tune. Also used t play an old Chuck Berry tune about a "sky blue jag" in a road race with a "thunderbird ford"...
