engine work query
Discussion
Looking to buy a 90 Esprit SE (my frist)with 40,000 miles, been told that the engine bottom end needs work, regrind the crankshaft and new main bearings.
Previous owner ran it low on oil due to leaky head gasket and damage engine, said it had a recent top end overhaul.
Any ideas what an estimated cost for parts and labor to be?

Hi,
You can buy a brand new S4 engine with all the ancilaries, for about £4k with your old engine as part exchange from Garry Kemp.

Since my car has been returned to me it has a noticable loss in power, most noticable in 2nd and 3rd gear but is not pulling as well as it should be in any gear. May just be a timing issue but after a 3 month rebuild and £3500 I kinda wanted it to be working. Maybe I just have shit luck but there is a problem and the last time my car was pulling like that was the day the big ends went
I have a receipt at home of all the parts that needed replacing, I'll bring it in tomorrow so u have more of an idea of the stuff u will need.

If I were you I would sit this one out and wait for a car that does'nt need internal engine work.
You never know what you are getting yourself into with a car like that.
But, if you were to go through with it, definetly go with a complete replacement crate motor as suggested by one of the prior posts.

I agree with this. Don't buy someone elses problem. Unless the purchase price of the car is $8K USD or less, I would pass it up. The time and money spent will far exceed the worth of owning the car unless the deal was "that good". Instead, buy one that is well sorted so you can enjoy it from day 1 on.
