I am considering installing a head unit with a flip out touch screen monitor, however I am concerned with the binnicle getting in the way. Here is the model I am looking at www.crutchfield.com/S-09xtDvyRVdz/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?a=0&s=0&cc=01&g=129100&id=essential_info&i=113911DVD
Does anyone have anything similar?
I am also considering swaping the location of the radio and a/c controls. This should give the clearance needed. Has anyone done this?

Thanks, John

I´m about to install a DVD and 2 7" widescreen monitors in my Esprit. The problem is to get room for the screens in the car, i did first plan to buy a similar version of the one you linked to but there is not space enough for it so then i decided to get 2 seperat sceens that are mounted in the (dont know the word in english) "sun protection" (?)

When i have installed it all in about a month or 2 i can post some pictures.

Hi John,

I wrestled with the same issue last May. I made some rough measurements, and the Alpine CDA-7897 I was wanting just wasn't going to fit...the binnacle was in the way. For something with a relatively small screen, such as the 7897, I don't see why moving the A/C controls wouldn't work unless the knobs got in the way (A bigger screen would likely still hit the binnacle).
The control cables and wires for the A/C will reach the upper slot, but I didn't notice (while I had mine apart) if the mounting bracket is part of the binnacle or bolted in place, so that might be a challenge.
I might be able to save you some time...the large A/C knobs have a hole in them through which you insert a small screwdriver and press in a spring-loaded "button" to release it while you pull on the knob. It took me a while to figure that out...I was looking to unscrew the "button" instead of pressing it in. The smaller knobs just pull off.

regards,
Bill

Thanks for the info everyone. My biggest requirement is that everything is in one central unit. Meaning, the Kenwood unit is a dvd player, monitor, and digital music player (with the music keg attached), and is all controlled with a touch screen. So installing a monitor in another location is not an option. I think I will try swaping the a/c and radio loacations and do a test fit.
My next big issue is the matter of a subwoofer. I am going to look into possibly installing 8" subs in the 6.5 loactions behind the seats. If not, plan B is to create a sub box in the spare tire location and port it in through the A/C vents.
Anyway, I used to perform custom installs for a living and hope I can figure something out. Once I get it sorted, I will post everything on my website. If anyone has any "trick" ideas or installs in their Esprit, please post them here.

On my Esprit "to do" list this year is an Amplifier, a DVD/CD Changer (Alpine) and subwoofer. The guys that did my Alpine install say that they can tuck everything away nicely, so when I get it done I will update the Alpine page...
