Esprit S4 Idling speed
Discussion
I've recently bought a 1995 Esprit S4 and have had a few problems so far, including the head gasket and lamba sensor failing (to name a few!!). My latest is the car idling speed. It usually idles at between 1500 and 2000 rpm (only occasionally at 1000 or so). As I'm new to the car I need help!! Any advise greatly appreciated!
Hi,
It should idle higher when cold or the A/C is on and around 950-1000 when fully warmed up. If it is idling too high when fully warmed up; check that the throttle jacking unit is working correclty and not sticking. The unit is located at the place on the inlet manifold (where the throttle cable goes in). When the car is cold it should push the arm outwards, letting it fully down when your car gets to around 70c. If this appears to be working correctly; check the connetions to your IAC (Idle Air Control) motor located to the left (front of the car) on the inlet manifold.
Hope this helps,

Hi,
I had the excat same problem on my S4.
I removed the EBPV and then plugged the vaccum from it. I get confused now, but I'm sure you need to also plug the vaccum to the throttle jacking as well.
Yes, that was it - there is a red and black vaccum pipe which goes to the throttle jacking capsule.... I think...if I remember correctly.
I did mine about 2 years ago, and I remember it making sense at the time.... but I don;t have the car anymore.
Mine always started first time, and the problem went away completely after removing the EPBV and throttle jacking vaccum.
Cheers,
JC
